Tuesday, November 2023:  The U.S. House of Representatives censured Rep. Rashida Tlaib for her remarks and actions concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict, with the motion passing 234 to 188.

Authored by Rep. Rich McCormick, the resolution accuses Tlaib of propagating false narratives about Hamas’s attack on Israel and of endorsing the state’s destruction.

The censure comes amidst political tension, with Republicans and some Democrats criticizing Tlaib for a video perceived as anti-Semitic and her call for a 2024 remembrance against President Biden’s policies.

While the Democratic leadership attempted to table the censure, the motion was rejected. Tlaib defended her stance, citing her unique perspective as the sole Palestinian American in Congress and the protection of free speech.
